Faculty & Affiliate Funding Opportunities

The Kellogg Institute and the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society are pleased to partner to support the Kellogg-Lucy Policy and Practice Research Lab, dedicated to cross-disciplinary research to address vexing democratic challenges through the use of social and data science methodology.  

The Kellogg-Lucy Policy and Practice Research Lab will bridge the worlds of research and practice by responding to concrete global issues and generating policy impact through an innovative use of social science and data science/AI research methods.

The lab is intended to serve as an incubator for larger, longer-term collaborations that can attract external funding and generate significant research and policy outputs. 

Eligibility

A Kellogg-Lucy Policy and Practice Research Lab must have at least two principal investigators: one who is a Kellogg faculty fellow, and one who is a Lucy Family Institute faculty member. Proposals must identify a minimum of two additional on-campus researchers working on a common theme, including Notre Dame faculty, visiting fellows, and doctoral students whose dissertation topics are directly related to the theme of the lab. 

The institutes strongly encourage lab proposals that make connections across the Kellogg and Lucy communities – including faculty fellows, current and former visiting fellows, postdoctoral researchers, and current doctoral students – as well as those that involve collaboration across disciplines, departments, colleges/schools, and with other institutions, external partners, and practitioners.

The lab is expected to yield a sufficient number of research and policy-relevant outputs within a specified time frame and be competitive for external funding. The third year of funding is contingent upon demonstration of external fundraising.

Do you need a home for restricted or sensitive data for your research? Would you like to partner early with the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society to accelerate the impact of your data? The Lucy Family Institute is launching a Data Platform and would like to identify use cases as well as current challenges and barriers that ND researchers face in acquiring, hosting, accessing, analyzing, and storytelling with data.

The Lucy Family Institute in partnership with Accenture invites the Notre Dame community to submit proposals for the launch of the Health Equity Data Lab. Researchers will be given the opportunity to work for up to two years towards addressing obstacles that enable equitable community health and well-being. In particular, an emphasis will be placed on healthcare literacy, healthcare access disparities, precision social determinants of health, and health equity indicators in the workplace to contribute solutions to some of society’s wicked problems.

Acting on behalf of the AnalytiXIN Notre Dame PIs (Marie Lynn Miranda, Patricia Culligan, Michael Hildreth, Santiago Schnell and Nitesh Chawla), the Lucy Family Institute for Data and Society (LFIDS) invites proposals that focus on developing collaborations with AnalytiXIN/ CICP companies.The AnalytiXIN Summer Fellowships are an opportunity for ND faculty to engage with CICP companies to establish broad relationships that might range from consulting to research projects to experiential learning opportunities for students. LFIDS will help facilitate possible connections with the CICP companies on the topics of interest. The goal of this RFP is to identify faculty who would be interested in and benefit from collaborations with CICP companies and to seed those relationships.
