The Lucy Internship Program

About Lucy internships:

The University of Notre Dame’s Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society fosters data science and artificial intelligence (AI) education to ethically address society’s wicked problems.

Past project topics have leveraged data science and AI to explore:

  • Health equity
  • Equitable housing
  • Industry optimization
  • Workforce development
  • Civic innovation
  • Ecosystem and the environment
  • Health and well-being

The Institute collaborates with industry and community partners to offer undergraduate and graduate students from Indiana and beyond the opportunity to refine their skills in data analysis, data visualization and machine learning. 

Working closely with expert mentors, interns develop projects that use data innovation to tackle diverse challenges in healthcare, housing, equity, urban revitalization, workforce development, and business optimization.  

The Lucy Internship Program in Numbers:

  • Over 30 participating companies
  • Students from 14 national and international universities
  • 20 high school students each summer
  • At least 30% female participation, two years in a row (2023 & 2024)
